More than 200 people came together on Sunday, August 25, for the third LocalShare Community Dinner, held at the First Presbyterian Church of Newton. The event, sponsored by the Foodshed Alliance, was open to all on a “Pay What You Can” basis.

The mission of LocalShare is to connect people, regardless of their means, with healthy, local organic food.

Dozens of people contributed time, money and expertise to make the day happen. Some of the area’s best chefs donated time and energy; farms and gardeners delivered freshly harvested food. The volunteer team who worked in the kitchen and the dining hall included everyone from students to senior citizens.

Sponsors included Whole Foods Market and First Hope Bank. Food contributors included the Arena Farm, Community Supported Garden at Genesis Farm, Julie Daly, Fresh As It Gets, Fossil Farm, Glenmalure, Godlewsky Farm, Ideal Farm, Kimball Farm, Kittatiny Mountain Farm, Little Big Farm, Nature’s Harvest, Pittenger Farm, Race Farm and Shop-Rite.

Chefs included George Mankakas of the Blue Olive-NYC; Ben Del Coro of Fossil Farm; Brian Morris and Mark Kufferman of Escape Restaurant and Chef Melody and Joel Levin of The Main Event. Music was presented by Dave and Claire.
