Welcome to the new gleaning season! We are grateful for all who were able to attend the LocalShare volunteer meeting in May. Volunteers are at the core of the LocalShare program and we are thankful for returning volunteers and extend a warm welcome to new ones!
Thanks to the generosity of our farmers, we have delivered several hundred dozen eggs and fresh ice cream to local food pantries and soup kitchens. Sometimes these type of donations pop up and as they do, we will be in touch to ask for your help. As summer rolls on, we will have regular scheduled gleaning days.
We are planning a Tour de Blairstown bike event with Marty’s Reliable in August and would love you to join us if interested in assisting or riding! This event is a fundraiser for LocalShare/Foodshed Alliance. Like us on Facebook so you can follow events and see what is happening. We will post there during the season asking for assistance with gleaning and sending Sign-Up Genius notifications.
The Blairstown Farmers Market opens June 4th and LocalShare will be accepting donated market produce as well as homegrown vegetables and eggs brought to the the market. The Foodshed Table will have a basket and the project is called LocalShare It! The market will also be accepting SNAP/EBT benefits (food stamps). Please help us get the word out by sharing this information.
We are creating committees to assist with the LocalShare walkathon scheduled for Spring 2017. If you want to get involved or learn more, please contact Christine.
Stay tuned or upcoming volunteer opportunities. Looking forward to being “outstanding in the field” with you!
